RDP Ministars

Our Active Start program is designed for our youngest soccer players to develop physical literacy skills while having fun and learning about the game of soccer! They also receive what will be for many their first participation in a team sport. The sessions are facilitated by our professional technical staff specializing in early youth development with the help of our fantastic volunteer parent coaches. A typical session comprises approximately 60% physical literacy activities and 40% soccer-related games. Parental involvement is required for successful sessions, and we will ask that they participate with their children in activities. Parents may be asked to sit or stand on the sideline closest to their child’s field of play to help create field boundaries for their child’s game. In addition, grown-ups are invited onto the pitch to participate in games alongside their child to act as a guide for some activities. This is introduction program to the Junior RDP

Active Start session is approximately 45 minutes in length and consists of 25-35 minutes of activities. All our sessions place a heavy emphasis on activities that give each child as much time to work through foundational movements, both with and without a ball.

Aside from individualized time and fun, our activities focus on three large foundational skills that are crucial to becoming a better athlete and soccer player:

  1. Physical Literacy
  2. Ball Mastery
  3. One vs. one (1v1)

Our program is heavily based on recommendations from Ontario Soccer and follows the LTPD model that is designed to create age and stage appropriate games and activities where the emphasis is on FUN and enjoyment of the game. The Active Start program is designed for players to get experience in playing soccer but is fundamentally a House League program where players come to enjoy the game and learn a bit at the same time and still playing games in the House League.

All players are between 2019/2020 – U3/U4. Parent/Grown up volunteers are encouraged to help coordinate with logistics and assist our staff coaches during sessions. We truly cannot run a program like this without volunteers, so any interested applicants are GREATLY appreciated.

The Mini Stars Program is offered to our players looking to continue playing soccer in a more structured environment. The Mini Stars Program looks to help bridge the gap between Recreational House League and introduction into the Junior RDP.
