Learn to Ski FAQ
Where is Earl Bales located?
Who are the chaperones?
There is one Head Chaperone per trip and enough chaperones to support a 1:8 ratio of chaperones to participants. The chaperones are local high school or university students who are all hired for their experience working with children.
The chaperones are there to supervise the bus trips and help students as they get their equipment and proceed to the hill to meet their instructors. If a participant needs to take a break from their lesson to warm up, adjust equipment, or use the washroom the chaperones are there to assist until they are ready to return to the hill.
Who teaches the lessons?
Earl Bales, a City of Toronto facility, has a full team of teachers and provides certified instructors for both skiing and snowboarding lessons.
How do the participants get there?
Transportation to Earl Bales is provided by school bus. The bus has two stops where participants can meet. The first is Whitney Public School, with the bus leaving Whitney Public School at 3:35pm. The bus then travels to the Mooredale main house and departs Mooredale at 4 pm.
Parents who wish can choose to drive or pick up their children directly, provided they check in and check out with the head chaperone.
The bus returns first to Whitney Public School at approximately 7:35 pm, and then Mooredale main house at approximately 7:50 pm.
What about dinner?
We ask that you pack food or purchase the dinner option. Participants can eat on the bus on the way to the ski hill, or immediately after the lesson.
The dinner option has a full size and half size sandwich option - it is recommended the full size is for 8+ years old, however it will vary by participant.
*Participants are not allowed to bring money along for purchasing food at the snack bar. The time we have for getting equipment and taking part in the lesson does not allow enough time for a break
