Our boat of choice is the Albacore. It is a forgiving boat, which makes it perfect to learn the basics of sailing. Its simple design makes it a great boat to learn how to adjust gib and main sails, centerboard and other elements to make the boat faster. We have more than 20 Albacore sail boats accessible to all members.
Fast, it can go, designed to promote hull planning in winds of 10 knots or more, Albacores hold steep waves and high winds very well.
They have actually been designed to sail the English channel, notorious for its rough weather conditions. Its small size facilitates the communication between the helm and crew allowing strategy and tactics development an extremely fun experience during social or high level races. Finally, one of the most fun part of sailing an Albacore is the hiking part. When sailing into the wind, the sailors can hike on the side of the hull to counter balance the force of the wind pushing against the sails.
Our club has one of the largest and most recent Albacore fleet in Canada.
Members have access to our 20 Albacores, as well as 4 Lasers, 2 Catamaran, and a 470-sail boat. To ensure the safety of our members and supervise training sessions, and racing events, we also have two motor boats in perfect working conditions.
Keeping our Albacore fleet up to date and in perfect working condition is one of our first priority. We permanently renew our fleet. Just in 2008, we purchased three new Albacores and renewed the sails of all of our Lasers.
Bring your friends for a ride
We recently purchased a Hobie Catamaran, perfect for leisure sailing and invite your non-sailor friends for a ride (cf. club policies). It holds up to six persons and allows for a nice and relaxing sail on the lake.
Looking for emotions?
Don’t get fooled by its size, Albacores will give you plenty of emotions. After less than a season of sailing at Mooredale, you should be able to participate in the major racing events and I promess you will get the dose of adrenaline you are looking for! We also have a 470 sail boat which has a trapeze for hiking further away from the hull and a spinnaker to get even more emotions.
